“Mukadimah” Exhibition

Mukadimah (Prelude) is a collective exhibition that marks a point of departure for reflecting on the growth, transformation, and evolving landscape of contemporary art. Curated by Helmi Zuhdi, the exhibition brings together 22 artists from different generations and practices, particularly within the Malang Raya and East Java art ecosystem. Through diverse artistic approaches, Mukadimah examines the changing relationships between social realities, cultural histories, artistic production, mediation, and consumption. The exhibition creates a space where different generations and perspectives intersect, offering a critical reading of the conditions shaping contemporary art while tracing the social, cultural, and political experiences that inform artistic practices today.

Inspired by memories of isolation, locked windows, and the symbolism of hair as self-expression, the work reflects the quiet act of rebuilding beauty after destruction. The artist weaves solitude into something tender: a dusty dream stitched carefully back to life.
